“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15 NIV
The command is written directly in the scriptures: we must go out and spread the gospel. And not only that, but it was one of Jesus’ last commands while He was on this earth, which means it is one we should especially take seriously! After all, conveying His word is one of the biggest defining features of a Christian—when we do it in love.
But what if you are somewhere that you can’t talk about the gospel? For example, maybe your school doesn’t allow religious talk, or perhaps it’s your workplace. Or maybe you have a hard time working up the courage to speak and want to build up to talking.
Well, if that is the case, this article is for you. There are other ways to preach the gospel to every creature besides preaching in the way most people think when they hear that word, and some of them are listed down below.
- Hide Bible tracts in public places
This option is a great one for those of us who are a bit more shy and/or need a stealthier option. It doesn’t even need to be a Bible tract—it could be a handwritten Bible verse or a bookmark if you so wished! When you do this, take the tract (or what you are using) and put it somewhere not fully in sight but can be easily found by someone. Then pray over it and ask God to lead the right person to it.
- Volunteer for Godly causes
Volunteering is a great way to spread the Gospel by helping the poor and people who are facing hardships. And it was even one of the ministries of the early church (Acts 6:1-6). Need ideas for volunteer opportunities? Some options are volunteering at a local soup kitchen, a pregnancy ministry, a Christian homeless shelter, or even to help your elderly neighbors out! Another thing that can be done (and is a good choice for those who can’t get out of the house) is to put together a shoebox present for Samaritan’s purse or the Prison Fellowship Angel Tree during Christmas time for kids who normally might not receive a gift. There are many more options out there than these, so look around and of course, pray about it!
- Write
Now, you may be thinking “Write what?” Well, it could be almost anything, really. Maybe it’s an encouraging note for a friend, a post-it note to put somewhere for a stranger to find, a poem praising God’s wonders, a blog post giving Godly advice, or perhaps even a book about the Truths that can be found in Scripture—whether it be a story or factual! There are many endless possibilities for this one, and what’s amazing is that writing is something that can go places we could never go, and writing most often outlasts the writer himself or herself. And never forget, God calls Himself an author in the Greatest Book, which is His book.
- Start a Podcast
Now, if you are under 18 you must have parental permission. After all, social media can be a scary place. However, if you and your parents feel like this is something God wants you to do, this is an awesome thing to try. You can share scripture, encouraging messages, life advice for Christians, your testimony, etc.! And you get to talk about the Gospel as well, except here you can type it and polish things up so it comes out smoother. An alternative to a podcast would be to do something like I am doing here in Commited 2 Christ: blogging! This goes along more with my earlier point, but it is a great option for those who would rather not (or cannot) talk in front of a camera (but still make sure to have parental consent for this!)
- Help Others When They Need It
This is another option that can vary in application. You could help an elderly woman cross the street, help repair a broken down shed for a family who can’t afford to hire a handyman, hold the door open for someone, or even just lend a listening ear when a person needs it. I will say from experience that the light of Christ shines most brightly when you are acting like Christ and helping others. If people can feel that you love and care for them and that they can trust you, they will often be able to perceive your faith.
So as you can see, there are a lot of diverse ways to spread the Gospel—all you need to do is look at what’s around you and pray for God to give you wisdom. And what’s even better is that there are many more ways besides these options I have listed for you. So I have a question for you all: What are some ways to spread the Gospel that aren’t listed on here? I (and everyone else) would love to hear them!
And now:
“‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
Numbers 6:22-26 NIV
