God Is On the Move -7eventh Time Down
It is very easy to get discouraged in this world of evil. Sometimes it seems that no matter where we turn, all we can see is corruption and destruction, and we can’t find a way to fix it. What do we do when this despair hits us?
First: focus on the Father. If it has been quoted once, it has been quoted a thousand times: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” (Jeremiah 29:11). Sometimes we get way too caught up in the things we have no control over, and this leads us to worry and obsess for hours over something we cannot immediately change. It is a waste of our time and our life. “But the Lord answered her, “‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.’” (Luke 10:41-42). We are called to bring Christ’s light to the world, and we cannot do this if we are overly concerned about things we have no authority over. That isn’t to say that we should ignore the things that are going on around us, but we should spend more time focusing on what we can control, and entrust the rest to God.
So what does focusing on what we can control look like? Think of one of the main problems you’re concerned about in your life right now. Is someone you love in need of Christ’s light? Are you worried about all of the unknowns in your future? Or something else entirely? When we’re in those types of situations, everything can feel out of our control, and it leads us to agonize or wear ourselves down worrying about what might happen. But there are things we can control, even in the biggest problems. If someone you love needs to find Christ, then focus on letting Christ’s love shine through you. Delve deeper into your relationship with God, ask Him what He wants you to work on, and focus on growing your friendship with Him. Your example will do more than anything you could possibly say. If you’re worried about the unknowns in your future, focus on staying in relationship with Christ. Follow Him in every situation and see where He leads you. I know that trusting your future to God when you don’t know what is going to happen can be incredibly difficult, but if you stay in friendship with Him, you are not likely to go astray. And that is something you can control.
And through all of this, don’t forget to focus on the smaller victories. Listen to the lyrics of the song: “Anytime in weakness someone falls upon their knees, Or dares to speak the truth that sets men free, Anytime the choice is made to stand upon the Word… God is on the move,”.
God does not always change everything with one mighty action. Sometimes He uses millions of small actions that pile on top of each other, swelling into a tidal wave of light that shines for the whole world to see.
God is on the move. He is still working in the chaos. We simply need to focus on what He asks us to do, and on what we can control. Stay in friendship with Him, and He will use you to do wonderful things.
