What if you introduced yourself as your biggest fault—the thing you often struggle with and lose the battle to?
“Hi, I’m a hypocrite!”
“Nice to meet you. I’m a liar.”
“My name is Doubtful.”
May I ask you: Is this who we are? Our sins can weigh us down, and the enemy is quick to accuse us of these. He doesn’t want you claiming the names God has already called you by: Loved. Forgiven. Precious. Treasured. Beloved. Daughter. Son.
In Mark chapter 5, the woman who suffered constant bleeding came up to Jesus and touched his robe. When she identified herself as the one who had touched Him, He didn’t condemn her or call her Unclean. He called her Daughter. That’s who she was.
Let me tell you these two things:
- Your identity is not defined by your weakness. You are identified in Christ Jesus. He took your faults to the cross and nailed them there. It doesn’t matter what Satan calls you. YOU BELONG TO CHRIST. “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12 NLT
- Names are very valuable. God called you his own—His Child. You may be stuck in fear or sin, or whatever situation you’re dealing with, but that is not who you are. We all struggle sometimes, and we all fail, but that doesn’t mean we’re failures.
I must admit, I struggle with this a lot. I know God loves me and has grace for me when I fail, but I find it hard to believe. As a perfectionist, I worry about getting things 99% if not 100% right all the time. But thankfully, God keeps pulling me back into His grace and love. Whenever I mess up or fail at a project, He doesn’t condemn me and make me try harder. He’s patient. He says I am treasured and grace is pouring freely from His hands. He’s full of forgiveness and mercy. He identifies me.
“Hi, I am God’s Precious Child!”
Who are you?
