Cup of Tea – Not My Soul

Song Highlight: Adrenaline – Dream

Initial disclaimer: Adrenaline is not a Christian song, nor is it written by a Christian artist. However, I’ve been listening to it a lot recently, and it’s helped me come to a realization about my faith. I highly recommend listening to it before reading this post, but I will quote the important lyrics for those of you who prefer to skip the song. (And don’t worry–there’s no swearing, and everything I quote will be completely clean).

In the past three months, I have been struggling with several personal issues that have cropped up. I won’t go into detail, but for the sake of this post, know that these issues have significantly impacted my life and left me mentally (and physically) worn out. After about two months, Adrenaline was posted on the artist’s YouTube channel. I immediately decided that my mission was to make this song my ‘most listened to’ song of 2026. I want to share a specific portion of the song that impacted me, and how I think it can be applied to the everyday life of a Christian.

The first part of Adrenaline’s chorus goes like this:

My arms,

My legs,

My heart,

My skull,

My brain,

My blood,

But not my soul.”

Read that again for me, then come back here. This verse made an impression on my mind, especially given my ongoing struggles. It made me realize that, yes, my struggles might affect everything about me–my mental health, my physical health, and how I live my day-to-day life. But nothing that I’m going through can take my soul away from me. Only I get to decide if I stay joyful, keep pursuing Jesus, and work to glorify Him in my everyday life.

There may be seasons where I can’t do as much. Maybe the best I can manage is reading my Bible each day. But I can do it. I can make the choice to keep my soul unaffected.

That’s my message for today, for whatever you’re going through, in whatever walk of life you find yourself in. Let it take your arms, legs, heart, skull, brain, and blood, but never let it take your soul.
